This set of interactive activities from the Languages online resource introduces the Indonesian language for visiting family and the terms for near and far. The activities include pronunciation practice, listening and responding, and using the terms for near and far in context. Also featured is a song that models an authentic dialogue and, most importantly, introduces the term for talking about meeting people as opposed to visiting them, and the appropriate context for its use. Instructions in English, immediate feedback and answers with translations are provided, as well as resources for teachers including printable activities and flashcards.

  • This interactive learning resource is valuable for Indonesian language teaching and learning for mid-to-late primary years, and beginners in junior secondary. It supports the Communicating and Understanding strands.
  • It may be of use with the Reciprocating strand if the teacher provides additional authentic resources for comparison with students’ life experiences, and facilitates reflective tasks in class.
  • Students are provided with opportunities to practise using the phrases for talking about visiting family and where they live.
  • A song modelling authentic usage of the target language is included.
  • Students' listening comprehension skills are extended.
